Autonomous ride-hailing services are finally hitting the fast lane! Tesla, Waymo, Uber, WeRide, and Lyft are all accelerating their robotaxi plans. Waymo is already serving passengers in Los Angeles, Phoenix, San Francisco, and Austin, and is set to expand into Atlanta, Miami, and other cities through 2026–2028. At the same time, Elon Musk’s Tesla Robotaxi debuted in Austin on June 22, 2025, operating under human supervision with fares starting at $4.20 per ride.
WeRide, the Chinese autonomous mobility firm, is scaling fast. After a successful launch in Abu Dhabi, WeRide partnered with Uber to deploy robotaxis in 15 additional cities worldwide over the next five years. This expands their fleet into Europe, the Middle East, and Saudi Arabia, powered by a $100 million investment from Uber to drive global growth. Meanwhile, Uber has committed to rolling out a fleet of 20,000 autonomous taxis globally, partnering with Lucid and Nuro to set up robotaxi services in major cities starting around 2026.
Through all of this, the robotaxi market is accelerating at pace. It’s currently valued at $4.4 billion in 2025 and is projected to grow to over $124 billion by 2034, with a 45% compound annual growth rate. Widespread adoption is being driven by advances in AI, 5G, and autonomous vehicle safety systems, pushing ride-hailing into an era of driverless, electric mobility.
