China Proposes Global AI Governance Body

In a bold diplomatic move, China has formally proposed the establishment of a global regulatory body for Artificial Intelligence (AI). The idea, tabled during recent multilateral talks, is aimed at ensuring AI development remains ethical, safe, and inclusive across all nations. The call comes amidst growing concerns about the unchecked power of Big Tech, algorithmic bias, and rising AI-fueled geopolitical tensions.

China’s proposition emphasizes a multilateral approach, where all countries (especially those in the Global South) would have equal footing in shaping AI norms and standards. It is seen as a counterweight to the AI influence currently dominated by the United States and the European Union, both of which are advancing their own frameworks (like the EU AI Act and the U.S. AI Executive Order)
