The Nembe Se Lawyers Forum, is set to hold a one day special session on "Law Practice Building In Contemporary Times". The programme which is hosted by Serenity Legal Union & Partners, at 7 Jessy and Jenny Street, Trans Amadi Industrial Layout, Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, will be held virtually for interested persons all over the world on the 3rd of May, 2021.


In a media briefing held by the Forum on 19th day of April, 2021, the Chairman of the forum, Dr A.J Beredugo, while addressing newsmen stated that the multi-purpose session is being organized to enhance the skills and preparedness of lawyers - collectively and individually - in contemporary times, in the light of fast unfolding changes, challenges and opportunities, locally and globally, many of which have profound significance for the socioeconomic development and human security trajectory of Nigeria and, in particular, the Niger Delta region, amongst other things.


“The multi-purpose session is being organized: to enhance the skills and preparedness of lawyers - collectively and individually - in contemporary times, in the light of fast unfolding changes, challenges and opportunities, locally and globally, many of which have profound significance for the socioeconomic development and human security trajectory of Nigeria and, in particular, the Niger Delta region; to promote innovative ways of using law as a preferred means for satisfactorily resolving national, social and commercial problems, and particularly to both foster a conducive social-legal environment for industrial activities in the Niger Delta region and build a base of legal service providers to adequately support that vision;


“…provide a platform for constructive stakeholder relations between key corporate organizations operating in the region, a cream of community and social leaders (including monarchs), the legal sector and other professional icons; recognize accomplishments and contributions of outstanding legal minds of Nembe Se extraction; and create room for quality networking, plus offer inspiration for our young lawyers and professionals,” he said.


In a press statement signed by the Chairman of the Nembe Se Lawyers Forum, Dr A.J Beredugo, and the Planning Team lead, Iniruo Wills, it was revealed that the Lead Speaker at the event will be one of Nigeria's leading commercial lawyers and policy experts, George Etomi (FNIALS, NPOM), the pioneer Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association's Section on Business Law. Other confirmed Speakers are:  Mrs Boma Alabi, (OON, SAN), a Nembe Se Lawyer and former President of the Commonwealth Lawyers Association who was also the first black President of the Female Solicitors Association of England and Wales, and Professor D K Derri, the current Dean of the Niger Delta University's Faculty of Law.

Expected invited guests include top executives of public and private corporations of special significance to the national economy and the Niger region, such as the Governors of Rivers and Bayelsa States, the Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, the President of Nigerian Bar Association, the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA), Brass Fertilizer and Petrochemicals Ltd, The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Ltd, Aiteo Eastern E & P Ltd, Nigerian Agip Oil Company Ltd, and First E & P Ltd. Also expected to attend are Judges, National/State Legislators and Top Monarchs of Nembe Se.


There is also going to be a panel discussion on the sub-themes of "Law in a Fast Changing World" and "Expanding Opportunities in the Legal Market". Speakers and representatives of some of the invited organizations will speak at the panel session.


Participation in the event will be hybrid as it will be physical and virtual. All lawyers from the Nembe Se extraction both home and abroad can join the event physically on Monday, 3rd May 2021 at the Nabo Graham-Douglas Hall of the law office complex of Serenity Legal Union and Partners in Port Harcourt, while other lawyers and even Nembe Se lawyers who cannot make it physically can join virtually.
