Lagos, Nigeria – T2mobile (formerly 9mobile) has finalized a multi-million dollar strategic partnership with global telecom supplier Huawei to modernize its core network infrastructure. The agreement, signed at a ceremony in Lagos, marks a pivotal moment in T2’s rebranding and comeback strategy.
According to CEO Obafemi Banigbe, the deal is "more than a contract—it’s a catalyst." Huawei will overhaul T2’s core network to enhance capacity, resilience, and security—key foundations of its four-phase roadmap: Stabilisation, Modernisation, Transformation, and Growth. The project is expected to be completed in the coming months.
This modernization comes on the heels of T2’s subscriber gain of 290,601 in July 2025 (its first growth in nearly two years) making it the only major operator to register net growth while rivals lost users.
Complementing Huawei’s infrastructure upgrade, T2 has also secured a national roaming agreement with MTN Nigeria—allowing its subscribers to access MTN’s extensive network coverage and bridging service gaps during its infrastructure rebuild.
