OpenAI to Launch AI-Powered Jobs Platform To Rival LinkedIn by Mid-2026

OpenAI has announced it is building an AI-powered hiring platform tentatively called OpenAI Jobs Platform, slated to launch in mid-2026. The service aims to directly compete with LinkedIn by using artificial intelligence to help match candidates to employers, focusing especially on tech and AI-related skills.

According to Fidji Simo, OpenAI’s CEO of Applications, the platform will not just serve big companies, but it will have special tracks for small businesses and local governments to find AI-literate workers. On the user side, job seekers will be able to showcase not just their past roles, but actual AI-fluency through new certifications offered via OpenAI’s Academy.

The move reflects growing awareness that simply having a degree or standard profile may no longer be sufficient. OpenAI is betting that employers will increasingly value demonstrated skills—especially in AI, prompt engineering, automation, and related areas—over traditional credentials. This also aligns with broader trends where hiring platforms are integrating AI tools to better surface talent and reduce mismatch.

For many users, this could mean new opportunities as well as new pressures: those who keep up and build AI-relevant skills may benefit; others may find themselves disadvantaged if they lag in digital literacy. OpenAI also says it plans to certify 10 million Americans by 2030 in various levels of “AI fluency.” The platform’s success will likely depend on its trustworthiness, fairness in matching, and how well it balances automation with human oversight.
