Nigeria is set to take centre stage in Africa’s digital economy with the debut edition of GITEX NIGERIA, a four-day technology and innovation showcase scheduled for 1–4 September 2025 across Abuja and Lagos. Held under the patronage of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, the event is organised by KAOUN International in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy and supported by the Lagos State Government.
The programme kicks off in Abuja on 1 September with a Government Leadership & AI Summit, before moving to Lagos from 3–4 September. Lagos will host the GITEX Tech Expo & Future Economy Conference at Eko Hotel and the Startup Festival at Landmark Centre—making it West Africa’s largest gathering of tech leaders, policymakers, startups, and investors. Focus areas include artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, innovation-driven policies, and public-private sector collaborations.
Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, said the event provides a platform to “move from being passive consumers of AI to becoming net producers of talent and solutions.” Similarly, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu noted that the convergence will position Lagos at the “heart of Africa’s digital future.” The Director-General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, described the summit as a “cornerstone for Africa’s digital renaissance.”
Global tech players—including IBM operated by MIBB, AWS, Cisco, IFC, and Kaspersky—will join the showcase, alongside the UNDP’s timbuktoo initiative, the world’s largest pan-African startup support programme. With Nigeria already hosting 23 of the country’s 28 fastest-growing companies in Lagos, GITEX NIGERIA will serve as both a magnet for international investors and a launchpad for African startups solving global challenges.
