Instagram has officially launched a Repost feature, allowing users to share public posts or Reels directly to their main feed. When you repost, the original creator is credited, and your reposted content appears in your followers' feeds as if it were a fresh post. Plus, all your reposts are organized in a new “Reposts” tab on your profile for easy access.
This move shifts Instagram toward a more social, discoverable model, aligning with platforms like Twitter (now X), TikTok, and Threads. Users can add their own captions for context, giving reposting flexibility while boosting engagement for creators.
Alongside the repost update, Instagram is rolling out two other features:
A location-sharing map within DMs, letting users share real-time locations with chosen friends or “Close Friends” (opt-in only).
A new Friends tab in Reels, showcasing content your close connections have liked, commented on, or reposted.
These tools aim to deepen personal connections, move beyond passive viewing, and make Instagram a more engaging social space.
