Dropbox has revealed plans to discontinue its password management service, Dropbox Passwords, with a complete shutdown scheduled for October 28, 2025. This move is part of the company’s strategy to focus on strengthening its core offerings in file storage and collaboration.

The shutdown will roll out in stages: starting August 28, users will only be able to view stored credentials—adding new entries and autofill features will be disabled. On September 11, the mobile app will stop working altogether, while browser extensions remain functional. Then, on October 28, all password data—including usernames, passwords, payment details, and dark web monitoring—will be permanently and securely deleted from Dropbox's servers.

Users are urged to export their passwords immediately, either via Dropbox’s export tools (e.g., CSV file) or by migrating to secure alternatives like 1Password, for which Dropbox offers a streamlined import process.
