The Federal Ministry of Communications, in partnership with MTN Nigeria and Huawei, has launched AgriConnect, a smart agriculture initiative aimed at transforming farming through technology. The pilot began in Ogun State, providing 1,000 rural farmers with smart devices and internet access.
Each device comes preloaded with AI-powered agritech apps, weather updates, crop advisory tools, and access to market prices. This allows farmers to make data-driven decisions, reduce losses, and increase yield without needing formal tech training.
This is a major leap for Nigeria’s agriculture sector. With the right digital tools, even smallholder farmers can unlock big productivity gains, and AgriConnect is leading the way.
