Russia’s Actions by Using Deadly Strikes Against Ukraine is Condemned: UN

The United Nations Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine has condemned a recent surge of Russian missile and drone attacks that reportedly resulted in the deaths of at least 13 civilians and injuries to 65 others. In a statement released on Sunday, it was emphasized that these assaults shows the severe dangers posed by the deployment of high-powered explosive weapons in a highly populated areas.



 The United Nations Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, said the overnight assault from Saturday into Sunday is one of the largest since the war began in February 2022. That it has resulted in civilian casualties and caused damage to homes and infrastructure across 10 regions of Ukraine, the capital, Kyiv inclusive.



Three children were killed and nine injured. The HRMMU is investigating to ascertain the casualties caused and the impact of the attack. It was reported that at least 78 people has been killed or injured across the country. The HRMMU head Danielle Bell said:



“It is yet another addition to the staggering human toll this war continues to inflict on civilians, with more families across the country now grieving their losses.”



The UN humanitarian coordinator for Ukraine, Matthias Schmale, expressed his concern over the suffering of civilians.



It was reported by the Ukrainian authorities that the Russian armed forces launched at least 367 missiles and loitering munitions during the night in a coordinated attack with air, sea and land-based systems. That strikes were solely targeting the Kyiv region.



The HRMMU added that, the use of long-range weapons in urban areas has been the major cause of civilian casualties in the months of March and April while the casualties in the month of May is lower than in April before this current attack.
