T2 Mobile (formerly 9mobile) Records First Subscriber Gain in 20 Months

T2 Mobile, a rebranded identity of the once-troubled 9mobile, has posted its first subscriber growth in nearly two years. According to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), the company added 290,601 new users in July 2025, growing its active subscriber base from 2.4 million to approximately 2.7 million. This marks a notable rebound following a prolonged period of decline.

This subscriber gain is particularly striking given the wider industry trend: Airtel lost 2.4 million subscribers, MTN declined by 106,345, and Globacom dropped by 143,701. T2 was the only operator to buck the downturn in July.

The turnaround comes shortly after T2’s rebranding in August 2025 and the rollout of a national roaming agreement with MTN Nigeria, allowing T2 subscribers to access MTN’s extensive network across the country.

T2’s resurgence stands out against a long decline—having posted nearly a 90% drop from its 2015 peak of 22 million subscribers, with the figure dwindling to just a few million by 2025.
