Bitcoin Beyond Borders

Theophilus Isah, CEO and co-founder of Mavapay, is trailblazing a future where Bitcoin serves as a seamless, everyday currency for African businesses and individuals. At the heart of his mission is Mavapay’s platform, which uses the Bitcoin Lightning Network to enable instant, ultra-cheap cross-border payments—sidestepping Bitcoin’s notorious volatility by automatically stabilizing payments in USD or local currencies. Businesses can now accept Bitcoin as easily as cash, without managing wallets or worrying about rapid price swings.

Beyond payments, Theophilus is also driving education and community growth across Africa’s crypto landscape. He’s a facilitator in the Btrust Builders program and has helped develop learning tools like ChatBTC and BitcoinSearch, all aimed at demystifying Bitcoin and fostering adoption among developers and everyday users. Mavapay has already launched a low-cost payment corridor between Nigeria and South Africa, processing millions of Rands with fees as low as 0.75%.

With plans to extend services into Kenya and Ghana (via mobile money and USSD) and to launch a user-friendly mobile app soon, Theophilus is positioning Mavapay as more than a fintech. It’s a movement toward financial sovereignty, giving Africans control over their money without intermediaries.
