Police Disperse Protesters with Teargas in Port Harcourt

On Monday morning, officers of the Rivers State Police Command discharged teargas canisters to disperse protesters who had gathered at Isaac Boro Park in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State.

The demonstrators, affiliated with the 'Take It Back Movement', arrived at the venue as early as 9:00 a.m., only to be met by a formidable police presence. Upon being warned by officers not to proceed with the protest, the youthful demonstrators retorted, “No one can dictate where we may gather; we are Rivers people.”

The police subsequently pursued the protesters, resorting to the use of force. Several individuals were physically assaulted during the scuffle, including journalists present to report on the event.
