Appointment of Fifteen Federal High Court Judges: NBA Calls For Expressions Of Interest

The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Hon. Justice T. Tsoho has called for the submission of applications by qualified Legal Practitioners to the bench of the Federal High Court. 


This was made known to the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) via a dated 20th December, 2021, and signed by the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court. By another letter, however, the Judicial Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association is informing members of the call and urging interested persons to indicate their interest. The letter was signed by Dr. Babatunde Ajibade, SAN, (Ph.d), FCIArb, chairman of the NBA Judicial Committee.


The call for the submission of the Applications for appointment to the bench of the federal high court was directed specifically to the following states: Akwa-Ibom, Bauchi, Benue, Ekiti, Zamfara, Enugu, FCT, Sokoto, Rivers, Lagos, Kwara, Kogi, Katsina and Kaduna.


Therefore, legal practitioners from any of the aforementioned states are enjoined to submit an application to the National Secretariat on or before 31st January 2022. Applicants are enjoined to make the expression of interest to the office of the President of Nigerian Bar Association located at Abuja.

Moreover, the Application should contain the following requirements:


A copy of the Applicant’s call to bar certificate.


Evidence of payment of bar practicing fees for the past 10 years.


Evidence of payment of NBA branch dues for the past 10 years.


A copy of the Applicant’s curriculum vitae.


Evidence of membership of sections of fora of the NBA.


Evidence of attendance of conferences of the NBA.


A letter of good standing from the chairman of the Applicants branch confirming that the Applicant has the qualities set out in Rule 4(4)(1)(a), (b) and (d) of the NJC’s guidelines for the appointment of Judicial Officers for Superior Courts of Record.


The National Secretariat shall make a publication of the respective Applicants upon receiving the Applications from the Applicants.
